The Sexual Politics of Meat: A Review on the Basic Foundation of a Feminist Vegetarian Critical Theory

The sexual politics of meat written by Carol J Adams deals with the meat that is related to male domination, and the establishment of the society and therefore its dominance over women and animals. The study interprets patriarchy from a critical point of view and through an eco-feminist perspective it evaluates, from past to present, how women’s and men’s dietary patterns differ culturally, and how this differentiation is being antagonized by the exploited women and eaten animals. However, the study is not only about the relationship between meat and patriarchal worldview, but also about the intersection between feminism and vegetarianism. It is also considered that it is important to explain the intersection points through new conceptualizations such as sexual politics of meat and lost reference. In this context, it is possible to say the basic foundation of this work is the questioning of the social structure that assumes that men are identified with meat, that they need meat and the strength that meat provides, however, women don’t need strength as much as men do so they can feed with vegetables. In the book review study, in the framework of critical feminist-vegetarian theory of Carol J. Adams, a place was given to thoughts on the social structuring of the sexual politics of meat.
